Information about Life Coaching and Mentoring
There is no governing body in the United States in the life coaching industry; however, I have chosen to adhere to the American Association of Christian Counselors code of ethics. There are no regulations or required certifications to practice life coaching; I have also chosen to seek accreditation from the Board of Christian Life Coaching at the American Association of Christian Counselors. I am an American Association of Christian Counselors member and have received Christian life coach training. I have made it my goal to seek education and training to the degree that God guides me as necessary to be the most prepared and equipped. At the time of this statement, I am not aware of any requirements within Texas or other states or other countries.
What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching guides you in discovering your God-given values by helping to identify and clear away obstacles such as fear, procrastination, and perfectionism. By asking the right questions, holding space, and challenging you beyond your comfort zone, I will help you to achieve your goals.
Unlike traditional therapy, we don’t dive into your past or subconscious but start with the now and move forward to make positive changes in your life.
- Building your new step-by-step life based on God’s plan.
- Learning to make decisions on your own & how to use the bible for guidance.
- Finding your purpose and running with it.
- Creating a road map to everyday fulfillment through Christ.
- Getting past the fantasy of perfectionism.
What is Mentorship?
It is about self-improvement or personal development as a couple or family. I will help you learn to support one another and build a successful relationship. You can expect to see the following conversations and activities taking place:
- Discussing specific areas of life to grow in.
- Agreeing to a plan for studying the Bible and praying together.
- Choosing a relevant book or series of articles to read together.
- Spotting blind spots and opportunities for transformation in both parties’ spiritual lives.
- Finding and celebrating evidence of becoming more conformed to the image of Christ.
- Addressing areas of ongoing struggle or ungodly thinking and behavior.
Life Coaching vs. Therapy:
Life Coaches are not licensed healthcare providers or therapists. They do not treat or otherwise counsel but must refer clients needing mental or physical health therapy to an appropriate licensed professional.
The role of a life coach is to encourage, coach, and/or act as a facilitator of a client’s self-reflection, decision-making, planning for the future, and creating life changes. While coaching and therapy have clear legal obligations and requirements, there are many similarities. Both life coaches and therapists work one-on-one with clients or within a group setting. Certain psychological principles and theoretical frameworks are used in therapy and coaching to facilitate positive life changes.
